As your goals shift your business can too
This is my first ever 2nd interview! I am so pleased to have Rai Hyde Cornell join me again. In our previous episode we discussed content marketing, but today, Rai is here to help us learn how understanding the stages of business can help us to best support our life goals.
Rai has recently experienced changes in her life and, as a result, her goals have shifted. Since her personal goals shifted, her business has shifted to align with those goals as well.
Rai runs a copywriting business, but she discovered that it was time for her to pivot her focus as a solopreneur to focus on creating a marketing academy that focuses on the mindset that comes with building a business.
She remarks that this is the beauty of being a solopreneur–we can change the focus of our business to reflect the changes in our lives and goals. Have your life and business goals shifted over time? How did those changes appear in your business?
The 3 stages of business
The foundational stage – The foundational stage is the first stage of building your business. This is where you build your foundation by finding the core purpose of your business. Since your business is meant to serve you, not the other way around, you’ll want to set up the foundational pieces of your business based on what you want to achieve and how you want to fill your time. Your business should be a creative outlet that brings joy and fulfillment and improves the quality of your life while creating financial security. How close are you to achieving that?
The construction stage – The next stage of business is where you start to put all the pieces into place. This is where you refine your process by working out the kinks. You may be building your team and putting together your services. Your focus could also be on how to deliver your services and engage with your clients. During this stage you are refining your process, so many people start comparing their businesses to others. However, there is no need to focus on external measures of success. Define your own success based on your own goals. Make sure that you are still having fun while meeting your clients’ needs.
The refinement stage – In this third stage, you will make smaller changes to optimize your business. Listen to this interview for Rai’s insightful tips for optimizing your business.
It can be scary to trust your gut and base your business on your intuitions, but if you align your business with your intuition everything will fall into place.
