Leah’s story is filled with travel and adventure
Leah Arao launched her digital media career in the corporate world in LA before moving Las Vegas. After getting laid off, she took the opportunity to travel through South America exploring, learning Spanish, and picking up new skills.
After touring South America, Leah discovered the Australia Working Holiday Visa and set off on a new adventure. While there, she found meaningful employment and learned a highly transferable skill set. Upon returning to the US, Leah considered returning to the rigors of the corporate world but valued her time and freedom too much. Today, Leah plans corporate and social events, is a community manager, cohosts a travel podcast, and creates other travel content.
As a multi-passionate person, Leah has learned to find success while exploring her many interests. She has learned the secrets to keep the plates spinning.
The secrets to keeping multiple plates spinning
Since she is a doer of all things, the first thing Leah had to learn is to be consistent. With multiple projects at the same time, showing up every day looks different. However, consistently showing up is the key to keeping up with everything. Leah uses tools like time blocking to ensure that she consistently gets her work done.
Next, she learned that she needed a set of systems and processes to make everything work. For those, she keeps it simple. She uses Google Suite to help her stay organized. She has found that Google Sheets and Google Docs are as useful as many fancy apps. She has learned to master these tools to fit her needs.
While developing your processes, it is important to give yourself grace–it takes time to get things set up to work smoothly.
How to add more interests to your plate
If you are considering adding a new project to your to-do list, the first thing you want to consider is why? Why do you want to add this new task?
Next, you’ll want to consider the benefits. How do they compare to the time you will spend on them?
Leah recommends that you start small and make sure the new endeavor is a good fit. It is important to not tie yourself down too much. Think about what you’ll do if you don’t enjoy the work. Will you be able to get out of it easily?
Adaptable people with many skill sets have a tendency to take on a lot, but if you start slow and give yourself grace while you add a new plate to your table, you’ll be able to keep them spinning.
