You must have clarity first
Before you can begin to build meaningful conversations on social media you need to create clarity on what your goal is.
Clarity is power.
The clearer you are on which problems you are trying to solve and who your target customer is, the more productive your social media interactions will be. Once you understand these crucial points then you can begin to become a problem solver.
How to create conversations on social media
It is important to remember that on the other side of the keyboard you are speaking with another human being. This can be something that we all forget when interacting on social media. We are beginning to lose our ability to genuinely connect with others which is why many of us struggle with creating initial connections on social media.
Nobody likes to feel like they are being sold to. So, if you don’t start with a pitch, then how do you begin an interaction with a potential contact?
Think about what you would say at a networking event or a cocktail party, you wouldn’t begin a conversation by pitching your product. We start real conversations by asking questions. The same is true for virtual conversations.
Instead of being interesting, be interested. This means that you need to ask engaging questions. Once you find people to interact with, send them a DM. Ask them what is going on in their business. What kind of situation are they in? What are their goals? What are the obstacles to reaching those goals? Remember, with these conversations you are simply building connections–not trying to make a sale.
What’s next?
The next step is to schedule a phone call a few days later. It is important to take the discussion offline since people respect real conversations more than virtual ones. During this phone call, you can feel out the lead as a potential client. Conversations lead to phone calls, phone calls set up sales presentations, and sales presentations guide people to solutions. The more conversations you have the easier this process will become. The more familiar you are with the process the more sales you will make.
