Billy’s story
Billy Samoa Saleebey is an entrepreneur, podcast host, and even an award-winning filmmaker. Ever since he was a kid he loved creating experiences for others. As he grew up this translated well into sales.
Billy started out in the solar industry, using his sales skills to quickly move up through the rungs of the solar company he worked for. A shift to Solar City landed him at Tesla where he became the Head of Global Sales and Product Training.
After getting laid off, Billy knew it was time to strike out on his own. It took him a while to decide where to focus his efforts, but in the meantime, he started his podcast, Insight Out.
Upon launching Insight Out he began to realize how much work went into creating a podcast so he realized that this was the perfect opportunity to develop a service that could meet a growing need. And thus, Podify was born. Listen in to learn why he felt like he left the corporate world with too much money.
Consider the next phase of your business as you hire
There are a lot of roles that go into creating a podcast. Podcasters need to hire an editor, a copywriter, a web developer, a social media manager, and maybe even a video editor. In doing all this hiring, Billy realized that he wanted to hire with thoughts for the future to ensure that he was staffing to scale up to the next level.
Learn where to hire from
Billy also realized that certain areas of the world are known for certain types of work. By looking for new hires in certain geographical locations, you may be presented with a larger pool of candidates.
While you’re not looking for quantity, it is important to realize that a large number of potential candidates can help you find top-notch applicants to choose from. Discover which areas of the world are known for different types of work.
Create a system to hire the best candidates
After you find a pool of applicants you need to narrow them down. This can seem like a daunting task, but with the right process in place, you will find a good fit. Billy first evaluates candidates based on their portfolios, then he uses a set of questions to ask to better understand their work and motivations. Next, he invites candidates to a short interview followed by a test assignment.
Discover Billy’s short and easy trick to get a better feel for candidates’ personalities by listening in.
