Tiffanie’s work life was limited without a college degree
As a child, Tiffanie was on the fast track to college. She went to one of the top high schools in her state and had just begun college when she got pregnant. Like many young mothers, she had to choose between going to college or caring for her daughter.
Tiffanie ended up dropping out of college and getting a job across town with Avon working for just $8 per hour. Driven to improve her situation, Tiffanie applied for every job that she could within the company, slowly climbing the corporate ladder. Even though she was making three times more than when she started, she always yearned for more. However, Tiffanie was repeatedly passed up for jobs at Avon because she didn’t have a college degree. She recognized that she had gone as far as she could go in that company without that important document.
An unexpected career move thrust her into becoming a solopreneur
While Tiffanie had become complacent in her role at Avon, she also yearned for something more. An uncle encouraged her to get her real estate license so she began selling real estate on the side to family and friends.
Even though she had been hoping and praying for something to change, when the change came it happened unexpectedly. After 20 years of service to Avon, she was suddenly let go when her role was eliminated. Thankfully, she was given a severance package that reflected her years at the company.
With this money, Tiffanie was able to invest in herself. She started a commercial cleaning service and sold real estate. Then she found a creative way to make additional income on the side. Listen in to hear what it was.
Her mindset was the biggest thing to change
The real change in Tiffanie’s journey to becoming an entrepreneur was her shift in mindset. Tiffanie broke away from the people and thinking that were holding her back. Instead of wallowing over her forced departure from her long-time career, Tiffanie chose to take action.
She surrounded herself with people, places, and information that could help her move forward. This expanded mindset opened the doors to possibilities that she had never dreamed of. Rather than staying in the familiar box she had known her whole life, Tiffanie broke free and began to take action to push herself outside her limits. What can you do with the right mindset? Has your business caused you to push forward in new ways?
